Ashesi University

Ashesi University is a private, non-profit university located in Accra, Ghana. The mission of Ashesi University is to educate ethical, entrepreneurial leaders in Africa; to cultivate within students the critical thinking skills, the concern for others, and the courage it will take to transform the continent. Ashesi University was founded by Mr Patrick Awuah in the year 2002.

Ashesi's mission is to propel an African renaissance by educating ethical, entrepreneurial leaders. Located in Ghana, this private, non-profit university combines a rigorous multidisciplinary core with degree programs in Computer Science, Business Administration, Management Information Systems, and Engineering. A student-led honour code, integrated community service, diverse internships, and real-world projects prepare students to develop innovative solutions for the challenges facing their individual communities, countries and the continent at large.

Ashesi University is now recognized as one of the finest universities in Africa, with a proven track record in fostering ethical leadership, critical thinking, an entrepreneurial mindset, and the ability to solve complex problems. And in 2018, the President of Ghana granted Ashesi a Charter to operate as a fully autonomous institution; no longer to be supervised by a public university under Ghana’s accreditation system. Ashesi is the youngest university to have achieved such recognition, and one of five private universities in Ghana to have a Charter.

In 2017, Ashesi University was awarded the World Innovation Summit in Education Prize, one of the world’s biggest prizes in education. In 2018, Ashesi was also awarded a Charter by the President of Ghana, granting us full independence as a nationally recognized degree-granting institution. Ashesi was the youngest private university to have been granted a Presidential Charter in Ghana’s history. In 2012, Ashesi University was ranked among the top ten most respected organizations in Ghana (a first for an education institution) in a survey of 300 CEOs conducted by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and Business and Financial Times.

From starting Africa's first student-run honour code system to running far-reaching social ventures to founding companies that build software for millions of users, Ashesi's students and alumni are making an impact that is recognized around the world. Ashesi University has a total enrollment of about 1,253 students as at 2021.
